Di Vino

There is a small wine bar here in Grenada. It is owned by 3 sommeliers from Italy. Now, hearing that, you would think that the wine selection would be out of this world. Lets just say that what they lack in wine selection they make up for in atmosphere. Carissa and I had no trouble getting to know these guys and making a regular visit on our nights out, but it is sad to say that when you think of the knowledge that they must have, gone to waste all because of import taxes. I have tried almost all the wine that they carry and they all just taste like the same thing. Now I know that everyone’s tastes are different and wine gets better with age but, come on man, get something else on your shelf besides South African reds and Kendall Jackson Chard. Now, I am exaggerating a bit. All the wine that the head sommeliers picked out to bring from Italy  is from the Calibria region in Italy. The one that stands out to me has a light tannin, mellow dried berry, and a hint of oak that finishes in your mouth with no ill effects. It is, to me, a great table wine for those guests whom you don’t mind giving a treat. The bottle goes for $120 EC (Eastern Caribbean Dollar-about 3 times a USD). One of the best parts of this place is if  there is something new and in stock the owners want to drink it and let everyone get a drink as well. Also, if you want to try a wine by the glass that is not on the menu…..”no problem!…..let’s open it”. Good for those who don’t know what they want. The people and conversations at the wine bar are some of the best on the Island. You will run into many shop owners and local resort chefs stopping by for a mellow glass of wine. They also serve a full bar with a “you name it, I can make it” attitude, which keeps all patrons at-the-ready to see another type of drink. The best thing at this place is the Sangria. It is the best I have ever tasted! All I know of there recipe is: cheap red wine, vodka, light rum, dark rum and some slices of the freshest local fruit. Now the quantities and brands of product are yet to be told. I am going to try my best to see if I can get it out of them. It is also the only place on the island that you can get a real anti-pasti, pannini, or my favorite, a carpaccio. The meat is shipped from Italy and used on all of their sandwiches and anti-pasti- and they ain’t skimpy on the portions either.

  1. I think that this bar is also a great place! They not only have a great wine selection but also a lot of vodka! This is important, due to the fact that I love both wine and vodka! Also the staff is handsome, too bad they are taken! Damn. Overall, you walk in, you forget you are in Grenada and enter a new zone of fun!!! A must visit place
