As I lay in the somewhat smelly and uncomfortable bed in my new apartment, I thought to myself, “What a day”. See as it turned out, my wife and I moved from sunny and temperate Southern California to the small tropical island that is Grenada. Grenada is a small island in the southern Caribbean islands, and is considered the last of the W.I. islands. We entered the country with no preconceptions of the world we were about to enter for 3 years. Our day finished by us leaving the airport with half of our belongings and no sense of direction. We entered the island at night and blackness all around us. See we arrived just as a HURRICANE was crossing the path of this area in the tropics. Most lights were out and we were told that we should not get settled yet, in case we are to be air-lifted to safety tomorrow. As we awoke the next day we were glad to hear the Hurricane was now past us and we were safe from its wrath. We spent most of the day letting know loved ones we were safe and talking with our new neighbors. I felt somewhat of a comfort as there were many more people in the same predicament as us. We had no money, food, clothes, and no running water…….Fun….haaa!
